Minister of National Development Planning received an audience of the Secretary General and members of the National Energy Council (DEN) virtually, on Tuesday, 18 May 2021. The Minister was also accompanied by the Deputy of the KSDA.
After receiving the audience, Minister said the main thing discussed at the meeting was renewable energy in national development planning.
The Minister explained that national energy consumption will continue to increase in line with efforts to recover the national economy after Covid-19.
In addition, meeting energy needs in the future is expected to get even harder because of the depletion of reserves for fossil energy sources such as oil, natural gas and coal.
The development of new energy and renewable energy has not been significant in supporting the fulfillment of national energy needs.
Furthermore, it is necessary to downstream the mineral and mining sectors outside Java to encourage equality between regions.
Responding to this issue, the Minister said, there were 4 policy directions for the energy and mineral sector in the 2021 RKP. First, encouraging the fulfillment of energy needs by prioritizing increasing new and renewable energy.
Second, increasing access to energy and electricity. Third, increasing the added value of the mineral and mining sector. Fourth, improving the quality of the environment, as well as disaster and climate resilience.
